What It’s Really Like to Follow My Partner’s Travel Nursing Career
When my partner decided to become a travel nurse, I knew life was going to change. But I didn’t realize just how much.
Following his career means moving every few months, packing up our whole life (and our three dogs) into suitcases, and landing somewhere new without much warning. It’s exciting but also kind of exhausting.
There’s something special about seeing new places, experiencing different cities, and getting a fresh start so often. I’ve learned how to find the little things that make a place feel like home quickly, whether that’s a favorite coffee shop, a good hiking trail, or a quiet park for the dogs.
But it’s not all adventure. It can be lonely starting over all the time. Building friendships from scratch, figuring out where to get groceries, and learning new routes to work or the vet gets old. Sometimes I miss having a steady routine or knowing my neighborhood well.
Work-wise, I’m lucky to have a remote digital marketing job that lets me stay flexible and keep growing in my own career while moving around. Still, it’s a balancing act. Supporting his schedule while managing my own work and trying to make time for myself can be challenging.
Despite the chaos, I wouldn’t trade this life for anything right now. It’s taught me so much about adaptability, patience, and finding joy in the unexpected. Plus, our dogs are loving all the new smells and trails.
If you’re thinking about following a travel nurse, or any partner with a nomadic career, know it’s not always glamorous. But it’s real. It’s full of surprises, challenges, and moments that remind you how resilient and flexible you really are.
